Kids Catch-Up Courses

To provide an opportunity where children can ‘catch-up’ and REDUCE gaps in their learning.

Is your child finding school challenging or falling behind?

Having difficulties with literacy or has been diagnosed with a learning difficulty and needs specialist tuition?

Our catch-up courses are designed to fill in the gaps and equip your child with the set of skills they need to progress in learning and literacy.

The earlier support is implemented the more chance the child has to improve at a quicker pace.

Research has shown that a structured, cumulative and multi-sensory approach (auditory, visual and kinaesthetic) is the most effective way to help students overcome their learning challenges. Unstructured or general support, however, can impede a student’s learning progress.

What do the Kid’s Catch-Up Courses involve?

All our teachers have specialist training in teaching children with learning challenges.

Each course runs for 10 weeks, in small groups of maximum 5 pupils for 1 hour. The frequency and length of the course depends on the child’s needs.

The courses are available for children from age 8 to 12 years old.

We genuinely care about the progress made by each of the students. Therefore, to maximise their learning, we have designed two catch-up courses that focus on different areas of literacy.

Nitty Gritty Spelling Course

Spelling involves a number of skills: ability to analyse, perceive the whole word in its individual parts, auditory perception of letter sounds and auditory memory, decoding skills and visual memory for sequences. Difficulties in one of these areas can impact a person’s spelling ability.

Who is this course for?

  • Any student age 8 to 12 years old; and
  • Children who are having difficulties with spelling.

This course is designed to boost and expand basic spelling skills. Areas covered in the course are:

  • Difficulties with spelling
  • Making words
  • Open and closed syllables
  • Short and long vowel spelling rules
  • Suffixing rules and doubling
  • Word endings

Fact: Did you know that the English language has 26 letters in the alphabet, but 44 sounds?

"I thoroughly enjoyed this spelling course particularly because it opened my mind to spelling and it helped me to understand the rules and aspects of spelling. I would highly recommend this course for anyone who doesn’t understand spelling." Age 10
